During his Inaugural Address in 1789, George Washington stated, “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” Sadly, America has disregarded many of her founding principles and is paying a heavy price. Part of this responsibility lies with people of God who have distanced themselves from people of government and from the democratic process that made our republic the shining light on a hill. From the 2004 presidential election to 2008 and then 2012, the total number of Christian conservatives that have turned out to vote has dropped by an average of about ten million votes. The silence from God’s people has been deafening.

North Carolina Baptists for Biblical Values exists to connect the people of God with the people of government. To preserve our liberty and freedom, men of God must once again interject themselves into the arena of public debate over public policy. Lawmakers write laws that all of us must live under. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Proverbs 29:2

The time has come for the people of God to stand and engage in our political system. America is worth it! The people of our state are worth it! We must be willing to come alongside our leaders, pray with them, and Encourage, Educate, and Engage them.
